What are the general restrictions on swords for hold luggage on airlines?
Walter T asked:
I'll be in Spain in a few weeks, and while I'm there, I'll be visiting Toledo. Toledo is well known for making and selling swords, and I, and avid sword collector, am planning on picking one up. I'm finding it hard to get information on this on the search engine, so could anyone help me out? Thanks.

See the website below for official info. Just scroll down to “sharp objects.”

Sharp objects such as knives and swords can be carried in hold or checked in baggage provided they are packed properly and do not pose a hazard to other bags in the hold by jutting out and causing damage. The TSA also allows such objects in the hold baggage- as you’ll see from their website. However, to avoid any last minute hassles, suggest you send your swords by air cargo or courier from Toledo to your home.

Toledo WAS known for their swords, but all they make now are tourist junk. I never saw anything halfway decent to add to my collection. But if you are truely set on getting something from there get a big box or something like a hard cased golf bag and put it in there. I’ve travelled a few times with swords and have never had a problem. I usually let to agent know about it just to be on the safe side, but its not like a gun and you probably don’t even need to let them know about it.
