I love Rada cutlery. Go to Rada.com. I’ve had mine for years. My chef knife is my most favorite.

try ‘global’ – theyre great, but are pretty expensive. i think theyre some of the best you can get. i dont have them because i dont have the money, but would if i could afford them!!!

Global do very nice knifes. Very expensive but quality. You have just got to find a knife thats suits you weight, grip etc.

Buy a set you can afford, that includes a steel.
Have them professionally sharpened, if you don’t buy stay sharp ones.
If they come in a case keep them in that. If not buy a wooden knife block.
Treat them with respect, wash and clean them separately
I have found as long as I have them sharpened professionally once every 1-2 years they will last indefinitely.
Mine are 30+ years old and they are nothing flash.

you need to think quality over quantity for knives. You can buy sets of 20,30,40 knives off the telly on net for a small amount of money but they arnt a patch on pro chef knives.

Nisbits is a good guide to start looking. Victorinox is a good pro name and so is glabal. Global are the sometimes the must have name among chefs , but they are very good quality, but command a viry high price.
Back quality over quantity. i would say start your knife collection off one at a time. think what type you need the most and what your need least.
maybe start with and all purpose 10inch cooks knife and then a small veg knife. from there after move onto things like flexy filleting knives, butchers knives and serrated knives.

depending on your money situ i recommend victoranox as a good average brand. but if you ‘ve got a few quid to spaire go global- expensive but so much woth it.

When it comes to knives, there’s only 4 brands to look for: Global, Victorinox , Sabatier and Porsche.

I’m a woman with small hands and I found the Porsche Type 301 range nicest to handle.

Just a small tip: avoid ceramic blades like the plague, no matter what they tell you.

The professional Kitchen Devil range are fantastic and will suit most people, I always store knives flat.

  9. Lesley S Says:

I really like the Sabatier ones, but (if your in the UK) if your budget doesn’t stretch that far John Lewis do some really good lower priced ones.

Good way to store them is on a magnetic strip screwed to a wall.

I recommend the Samurai Shark for sharpening.

Look online at a catering supply firm of russums on They have knives to suit all price ranges, and stock most well known names. Global knives are the most mass produced, expensive and not that good.
I work as a chef and this is where I get my knives from.

To store knives, either buy a knife block, wallet or a case.
