I'm in culinary school and I put my initials on my knives and things, but it comes off after we wash them. What can I put on there that won't come will come off?

If you are a do-it-yourselfer there are little electric engravers sold for about $10 that will let you put your name into them. Otherwise a knife place can engrave them for you.

I’ve always used a piece of tape on my knife handles. Easier and cheaper than engraving. Or, you can try scratching an “X” or maybe a notch into the blade or handle. Use a small file used for metal work.

Ask my our teacher what the best way is to mark your knives. I’m sure this has had to come up before in their classes. You may have to have them engraved with your initials. Here’s a temporary mark you can put on them. Find a place on the back of the blade that you can make a mark with a nail file or an emery board to identify them as your knives until you can find a permanent solution.

My Father would engrave the last four numbers of his social security on any thing that was his. If some one were to steal it my Father could prove it was his by the numbers. It happen once and they called my Father to a pawn shop to retrieve his tools. The busted the guy who took them in to pawn.
