I live in San Francisco, CA and I would like to know the best way of disposing old steak knives that I no longer want.

I am from Penang, Malaysia and I have been looking for shops that sells good quality knives. Most people I've talked to suggested night market (pasar malam), but I want something that comes in a complete set and lasts long. I've seen speciality shops in US, but never seen one in Penang. Any idea?

I bought a few Henckels Pro-S knives a year ago and I think they are starting to lose their edge. Are there stores that will do this or should I buy some tools, like a whetstone, and do it myself? I am a little hesitant to do it myself, because I fear I will ruin them and have to buy new ones.

My wife wants to throw away some steak knives, but it doesn't seem like you should just toss them in the trash. Is there a way you are supposed to properly dispose of sharp objects?
